A Rake's Progress, series of 8 charting the decline and fall of Tom Rakewell the spendthrift son of a rich miserly merchant Tom confined to Fleet Prison for debt, is harangued by his wife, sat beside a play he has written to make money and a rejection letter; Sarah Young has fainted across the room while a young woman tries to revive her; the child is presumably hers and Tom's See SJS 2004 for original painting
