The remaining parts of a timekeeper by Alexander Cumming (1733-1814) of Fleet Street, London, later converted to a conventional marine chronometer and re-signed by his nephew John Grant, England c. 1767; the timekeeper may be the one referred to in a letter from Alexander Small (1710-1794) to Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790), with which Cumming hoped to win part of the famous Longitude Prize of 1714; showing Grant's later detent escapement;
