Gabriele D'Annunzio (1863– 1938), Principe di Montenevoso was an Italian writer, poet, journalist, playwright and soldier during World War I. Colette was the surname of the French novelist and performer Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette (1873–1954) with whom D'Annunzio had an affair. Inscribed: 'To Colette, a souvenir of Rome, Gabriele d'Annunzio, September 1920.'
