Creator: Macdonald, Frances (1914-2002) A patient sits at an x-ray machine with three technicians in white coats standing by, Queen Alexandra Military Hospital, London, 1941. On the right side of the room is a nurse standing with two other patients waiting their turn, one on crutches. Frances Macdonald trained at the Royal College of Art and was one of the longest-serving official war artists of the Second World War. She painted many subjects including St Paul's Cathedral, the London Docks, nursing scenes, and street scenes, although many were denied public display at the time. Several of her works are held by Imperial War Museums.
